The facility is located in the Denver metropolitan area on the grounds of what was known as the Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. The location, at the corner of Montview Boulevard and Peoria, is just two blocks north of Colfax Street with easy access via nearby Highways I-70 and I-225.
The Fitzsimons Home was constructed as a resident-centered home and is a “State of the Art Building,” designed to serve Veterans, their spouses and Gold-Star Parents. Amenities include individual windows for each resident, individual heating and air-conditioning for each resident, cable television in every room, resident access to computers, state of the art electronics, security systems, four activity rooms and numerous windows, balconies and courtyards to provide easy access to the outdoors. Total area of facility is approximately 123,000 square feet.
Every effort has been made to give Fitzsimons a friendly, comfortable home feel. The nursing home has a total licensed bed capacity of 180 beds arranged in four neighborhoods (Heritage, Patriot, Constitution, & Eagle). The Special Care Unit on the Heritage wing is a 21 bed secured unit for residents having Alzheimer’s or another dementia and a 21 bed Skilled Nursing Medicare Rehabilitation unit with physical, occupational and speech therapy services.
